Susan shares her stories with the technical expertise of her theatre training and the intuitive wisdom of a true storyteller. Jewish tales for adults and children include Midrash, folktales, Chasidic stories, , lifted off the page with insight and skill, and put back into true oral tradition, then woven together with her personal narratives-often poignant, thought-provoking, sometimes hilarious, always entertaining.
She continues to perform every summer for YIVO Summer Festival of Yiddish Culture, as well as in museums, synagogues, schools and, most recently, in Warsaw and Lodz, Poland. ("Bringing the Stories Home: Jewish Tales From Poland"). Bringing her considerable experience to her community, Susan is the Founder/Co-director of the annual Evanston Public Library Storytelling Festival.
For many years, Susan taught storytelling to teachers at National-Louis University, and still continues to offer workshops and in-service professional development. Many of her stories have been included in anthologies, and she has been honored with awards for her CDs of Jewish stories for children (Parents’ Choice Gold Award, Storytelling World Award, NAPPA Gold Award). Susan opens her heart when she tells a story, and opens the hearts of her listeners, too.
A passionate performer for over 30 years, Susan’s tales entertain, enlighten and illuminate the human condition. School Library Journal declares, “she is an incredibly talented storyteller.”
